Andy Swiney

Andy Swiney, age 77, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born on May 10, 1941 to the late Won Swiney and Verlee Simmons McDonald.  In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Swiney, sisters, Pauline Harper and Marie Carroll and brother, Dewey Chandler. Andy was a big guy with an even bigger heart.  He was not a man of worldly possessions and lots of money but he always, always donated what he could to charities near and dear to his heart; Wounded Warriors, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Cancer Society, and  Shriners to name a few.  He loved kids and in addition to raising his own children, Andy and Jerrie also raised some of their grandchildren and other family member in need.  Their doors were always open. Andy never met a stranger, as he loved talking and telling stories.  He and Jerrie loved going to town or riding around, preferably in his red mustang, as he was an avid Ford man.  He loved anything Johnny Cash and loved watching and reading westerns.  He was very, very proud of his grandchildren.  Andy was a United States Marine Veteran and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.   Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Geraldine ‘Jerrie’ Swiney, his children, Pam Swiney Blackburn, Amy Swiney and Andy Swiney Jr., grandchildren, Justin Swiney, Kayla Simpson, Lindsay Simpson Alexander, Dakota Swiney, Logan Taylor, Brandon Blackburn, Ethan Blackburn, Zyan Dishman, great grandchildren, Kyndle Hampton, Ava Alexander, Hero Taylor,  Sebastian Swiney and Siri Swiney, several nieces and nephews and many special neighbors and friends. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Harvey White officiating.  Graveside service and interment with military honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will be conducted at 2:00 pm. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Reece Memorial Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be family and friends.                  At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 368 Spear Branch Rd., Mountain City, TN 37683.
