Alfred Miller

Remembering the Life of Alfred E. Miller.

It is with deep sorrow and immense gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our father Alfred E. Miller on July 18, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents Ulysses and Gertie, brothers Perry, Herman, and Franklin Miller, sisters, Myrtle Stacy and Beulah McCall.

His life was a testament to the power of grit, faith, and unconditional love.

Born the eldest of nine in Whitewood, Virginia, in 1931, Alfred’s character was defined by service-first to his country as a U.S. Marine in the Korean War, and forever to his family, beginning the day after he came home from the service to marry his soulmate, Dorothy.

With a resolve to build a better life, he moved his family to Michigan. His hands, skilled by the auto and diesel school and a long career as an electrician for Chevrolet, were he rarely still as he worked tirelessly to provide. But his truest calling was in service to God. A devoted Southern Baptist pastor, he physically helped build his church and spiritually guided his congregation, In a beautiful act of love, he stepped back from the pulpit to dedicate more time to his growing family, but his ministry never ceased. He continued to share the Word through a radio broadcast and by preaching wherever he was needed. Alfred had a poet’s heart. He was a gifted songwriter whose words were recorded by great bluegrass legends Wade Mainer, Ralph Stanley and rising star Deb Kelly. Yet, for all his accomplishments, his greatest pride was his family, He was a man who put everyone else first, always insuring that his beloved wife was recognized as the heart of their home. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, To know him was to love him.

He leaves behind a legacy of faith and love, carried on by his children, Richard Miller, Darlene Dunlap (Dale), and Ronnie Miller (Myra), his grandchildren, Michael Johnson, (Erin), Scott Johnson (Beth), Tim Miller (Jordan), David Johnson, Ashley Miller, Shane Miller, and great grandchildren, Elijah, Ian, Ari, Zoey, Maxwell, Brody, Ryann, Charleigh, Kayla, Emma, Emmanuel, Gabrielle, Elisha, Esaias, Brantley, Lincoln, and Ariel, and 3 sisters, June Kennedy, Maxine Keen, Edith Diaz and a wide circle of family and friends.

Please join us to honor his life.
