Belva Louise Geagley Simcox, age 89, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was a native of Afton, TN but had lived in Johnson County for the past 66 years. Belva was born the eldest daughter of the late William Clarence and Hattie Snyder Geagley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Sadie Smith and Jessie Bacon. Belva was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Doak High School, Tusculum, TN. A devoted pastor's wife, she lived her life through Christ and touched many lives with her smile and giving heart. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Bruce Simcox, of the home; daughters, Phyllis Miller and husband, Buzz, Jonesborough,TN, Annis Jessee, Mountain City, TN; Vivian Simcox, Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Sherry Shull and husband, John, Mountain City, TN; sister, Goldean Ripley, Greeneville, TN; grandchildren, Darrell and Tammy Hammons, DeAnna Cole and Jerry Waters, Sonya and Billy Roark, Eric and Stephanie Townsend, Jennifer and Daniel Dickens, Aaron Shull; great-grandchildren, Alexis Jessee, Elijah Dickens, Karleigh Townsend, Autumn Roark and Abigail Dickens, Kolby and Ethan Waters; special friend and caregiver, Ginger Peters and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Belva will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Norman and Rev. Ray Sorrells officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with committal offered by Mr. Bill Worley. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Darrell Hammons, Eric Townsend, Aaron Shull, Daniel Dickens, Billy Roark and Jerry Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce's fellow ministers and spouses, Doug Hornsby and staff at Mountain City Care Center, Jim Cress and Belva's friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until service time at the church on Saturday. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountain City Care Center for the loving care provided to Belva. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. The family will also receive friends at the residence, 1480 Crackers Neck Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
