George Campbell

George Warren Campbell, 84, Butler, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Butler, he was a son of the late George Clifford "Bud" and Ruby Kyte Campbell. George served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After the war he moved to Indiana where he worked as a Painter. One of his painting jobs was at Notre Dame University. While in Indiana, he enjoyed playing golf. When he returned to Butler he bought, in 1970, Lakecrest Service Station and Grill and operated it until 1995 when he had to sell due to his health. In his later years, he enjoyed riding around and talking with his friends. George was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church, a Life Time Member of V.F.W. Post 2166, Elizabethton, a member of the Elizabethton Moose Lodge and was a Life Time member of the Elizabethton Elks Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Carolyn Sue Campbell, October 22, 1977; and by two sisters: Edith Raderstorf and Earlene Riggs. Survivors include a son: Clifford Paul Campbell, of the home; The mother of his son: Verla Campbell, Elizabethton; Nieces: Lori Kegley, of Butler, Patricia Woods, of Georgia, Cheryl Hayden and Sandy Zeigert, of Indiana; A Special Brother-in-law, Robert Riggs, of Indiana; A special four-legged family companion, Dixie. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Alan Koch officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be his many friends, former customers and employees of Lakecrest Service Station & Grill. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Roan Highland Nursing Home, Dr. O'Neal, and the ICU, James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for the excellent care he received. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion & Tennessee National Guard.
