James 'Rabbit' Danny Shupe

James Danny Rabbit' Shupe, age 57, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Watauga Medical Center. He was born on August 11, 1956 to Hubert and Mabel Brooks Shupe. He was preceded in death by his sister, June Cress and Sherry's son, Micheal Moody. Rabbit was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed searching for and collecting arrow heads. He also enjoyed hunting. One of his favorite hobbies was his CB Radio. Rabbit was of the Christian faith. He is survived by his best friend and caregiver, Sherry Moody and her son, Jason Moody; sisters and brothers-in-law: Barbara and Norm Reece of Mountain City, TN and Sue and Jimmy Treadway of Newton, NC.; nephews: Tommy Cress and wife Wanda; Jamie Cress and wife Caroline and Norman "Bud" Reece, all of Mountain City, TN; nieces: Debbie R. King and husband Robert, Barbara R. Simpson and husband Charlie both of Mountain City, Stephanie T. Cloninger and husband Scott, of Lincolnton, NC and Melissa T. Rasmussen and husband Andrew of Taylorsville, NC; his dog and pal, Rufus'; several great nieces and nephews and many special friends. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from the Reece Memorial Cemetery with Pastors Norm Reece and Jim Norman to officiate. Pallbearers are Jason Moody, Tom Colson, Ray Jones, Doug Johnson, Mike Dickens, Jerry Payne and Mike Phillippi. Honorary pallbearers are all of Rabbit's Special Friends. Family, pallbearers and friends are asked to assemble by 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Mountain City Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rabbit's memory may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683 or the Johnson County Cancer Support Group, c/o Flo Bellamy, 3510 Hwy 421 N.,, Mountain City, TN 37683 At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Rabbit's nephew, Tommy Cress, 1436 Pleasant Valley Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
