James Albert Snyder

James Albert Snyder, age 96, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 22, 2014 at the Mountain City Care Center. He was born on June 17, 1917 to the late Marion Grayson Snyder and Louise Donnely Snyder. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Snyder, who passed away February 19, 2011; sisters and brothers: Elizabeth Howard, Jess Snyder, Frank Snyder, Kate Davis, Christopher Snyder, Alice Arnold, Ethyl Hart, Ham Snyder, Clarence Snyder, Brownlow Snyder, Annie Davis, Mae Snyder, Arthur Snyder, Lilly Snyder, Paul Snyder and Ruth Simcox. James had lived in Pennsylvania for many years before returning home to Mountain City in the 70's. He was a skilled carpenter and loved to work with wood. During World War II, James was a coal miner. He also enjoyed playing the guitar. James liked to stay busy and if he wasn't working with wood, he was working around the house or in his garden. He was a member of First Baptist Church. James is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Kenneth and Peggy Snyder, Charles Snyder, Robert and Nancy Snyder, Larry Snyder and Terry Snyder; grandchildren: Mitchell Snyder, Daniel Snyder, Elizabeth Hockett, Jeff Snyder, Lisa Greer, Cindy Snyder, Teresa Kurtz, Christine Perkins, Mary Beth Morrison, Charlie Snyder and Tina Snyder; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and his special dog, Buddy' Funeral Services for James will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steven Spencer to officiate. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside service and interment will follow from the Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mitchell Snyder, Jeff Snyder, John Davis, Ned Kurtz and Hank Medley and family. Honorary pallbearers are John Arnold, Earl Arnold, J.R. Arnold and Family and R.C. Woods. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Ken and Peggy Snyder, 356 B Johnson Road, Mountain City, TN. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mountaincityfh.com.
