Rev. Charles Ray Slemp, age 72, of Trade, Tennessee, went home to be with his Savior on Friday, October 10, 2014. He was born on November 21, 1941 in Johnson County to the late Johnny Slemp and Maude Arnold Slemp. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy L. May-Slemp on December 9, 2013, brothers, Earl Slemp and Bascom Slemp. He faithfully served the Lord and preached the word of God for 40 years. Ray was a member of Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church but he attended Faith Gospel Church in Laurel Bloomery where he pastored until the Lord brought him home. Ray is survived by his two sons: Terry Ray Slemp and fiancé Amber Stout and Charles Allen Slemp, all of Trade, TN; three daughters: Angela Wannell Slemp of Trade, TN, Linda Louise Slemp of Mountain City, TN and Selina Mae Tina' Slemp-Hodge and husband Trampass of Elizabethton, TN; grandchildren: Delainee Huff-Slemp, Manasa and Charlie Slemp; Alex Slemp, Jocelyn and Jamie Michael, Jorrian Carroll, Ronnie Pilgrim, Jaida Walters, Britney and Hunter Hodge; three sisters: Nell May, Mary Cornett and Ethel Woods, several nieces and nephews and many special friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Shannon Courtner and Rev. Frank Woods to officiate. Special Music will be provided by the Faith Gospel Church Singers, Ted Puckett and Ben May. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Slemp Cemetery, located on Slemp Branch Road. Pallbearers will be Terry Slemp (son), Allen Slemp (son), Ronnie Pilgrim (grandson), Ricky May, Ben May and Trampass Hodge.
