Gregory Dwayne Yates Gregory Dwayne Yates, age 56, of Damascus, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017. He was born on May 27, 1960 to the late John Herbert Yates and Phyllis “Agnes” Yates. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Herb Yates. Greg was a lifelong musician and enjoyed playing music with family members and friends whenever possible. He also loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing, with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver, and also enjoyed fishing, and trips to the beach. He worked as a carpenter, a profession in which he excelled. Greg was an all around good man, always happy, and always making those around him feel good. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 28 years, Pam Yates, daughters Brandi Rose Yates and fiance Jeremy Joyce, Beth Sue Miller and husband Chad, sisters Diane Rice and husband Wyatt, Sue Slagle and husband Ronnie, sister-in-law Paula Yates, Brothers Timothy Yates and wife Debbie, Johnny Keith Yates and wife Linda, grandchildren Lanaya Joyce, Addison Joyce, Zoey-Beth Joyce, and Brayden “Bubba” Miller. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Yates and Pastor Shannon Courtner officiating. The interment service and burial will follow at Jackson - Lewis Cemetery in Taylors Valley, VA. Pallbearers will be Jordon Yates, Timmy Yates, Billy Wallace, Johnny Cato, Henry Killian and Donald Cullop. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Dunn, Ronnie Slagle, Wyatt Rice, Max Blevins, Jimmy Short, Larry Amburgy, Steve Furth, and Jamie Corum. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. At other time, the family will receive friends at the home of his daughter Beth, at 2562 Divide Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
