Ethel Evans

Ethel Mae Evans, age 83, of Mountain City, TN, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at her home. She was born June 24, 1934 to the late Stonewall and Irene Ellis Jackson.  In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Alston and brother, Bill Jackson. Like her mother, Ethel had a natural gift in growing anything that blooms.  No matter how neglected and wilted, she could breathe life back into vibrant blossoms that still live on to this day.  She and her husband Willie owned and operated their own grocery and convenience store for many years.  Ethel had a kind and caring heart and was always helping others.  She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church and was always working in the church and helping wherever she was needed. Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 63 years, Willie J. Evans (Ethel and Willie would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on April 24); daughters:  Judy Evans Fleming and husband Ronald of Gastonia, NC and Janice Evans Bonney of Ahoskie, NC; brothers:  Bobby Jackson and James Jackson; grandchild, Courtney Irene Bonney; great grandchildren:  Kayleigh Madison Cannette and Rylee Peyton Cannette; nieces, Toni Miller and Terri Rockwell; nephew, James Jackson Jr.; several other special nieces and nephews and many more special friends and neighbors. The Family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Wednesday April 18, 2018 from Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Poe officiating.  Graveside service and interment will follow from the Phillippi Cemetery.  Men of First Freewill Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to all of Ethel’s caregivers especially, Ashley, Kendra, Cheryl who have become like family and all of the Silver Angels staff for all of their loving care and kindness. At other times the family will receive friends at the home 213 Powell St., Mountain City, TN.
