What should I do if the death occurs in the middle of the night or weekend?
Our professional staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All you need to do is call (423) 727-9700 and we will make the necessary arrangements and notify the proper authorities (if needed).
Will someone come right away?
Yes, if you request immediate assistance. If the family wishes to spend a short time with the deceased to say goodbye, that is acceptable. We will come when your time is right and you are ready.
If your loved one dies outside of Mountain City/Johnson County, do I still call Mountain City Funeral Home?
Yes, we serve Mountain City/Johnson County as well as all surrounding communities. We can also assist you with out-of-state arrangements, either to transfer your loved one to or from another state.
I've never made funeral arrangements. How will I know what needs to be done?

Can Mountain City Funeral Home help me with cremation services?
Yes, Mountain City Funeral Home can arrange cremation services for you. We have many options to choose from; such as Direct Cremation to a traditional funeral with cremation following.
I have decided on cremation. Can I still have a funeral or viewing?
Yes, quite often a viewing precedes the actual cremation. We will also assist you with the arrangements for a funeral prior to cremation or a memorial service following cremation.
Is embalming required by law?
No, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary/required, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with public viewing. If you do not want embalming, you have the right to choose an arrangement/service that does not require you to pay for it, such as immediate burial, closed casket at service or direct cremation.
How much does a funeral cost?
All of our prices are itemized. You are shown each price for each service/merchandise with full disclosure and are charged only for items that you select.
What government agencies help defray final expenses?
The funeral director(s) at Mountain City Funeral Home will gather the necessary information for you to apply for financial assistance from the Social Security Administration, Veteran's Affairs, retirement benefits and other sources as needed. We are also licensed life insurance agents and can help make claims on life insurance policies.
Will we need to pay the full cost of a funeral service/arrangement up front?
No, we offer four ways of payment:
1. Pre-planned or pre-funded arrangements
2. Cash, Check and Credit/Debit Card
3. Half down and the balance within 30 days
4. Life insurance assignment with a valid policy for the amount of the funeral expenses.
What if we cannot afford the cost of the funeral service immediately and do not have funds to pay the four options currently offered?
